Anton Iv. Dzambazov – the first Macedonian cyclist to conquer 2,500 kilometers on two wheels

Anton Iv. Dzambazov from Shtip, Macedonia, is known as the first Macedonian cyclist who traveled from Sofia to Paris by bicycle in 1900, covering about 2,500 kilometers in 17 and a half days. This feat is significant, especially considering that at that time cycling was in its infancy, and the roads and travel conditions were much different than today.

In 1900, Paris hosted the World Exhibition (Exposition Universelle), which attracted millions of visitors from all over the world. This exhibition was a symbol of technological progress and cultural exchange between nations. It is possible that this historical moment inspired Dzhambazov to choose Paris as the final destination of his journey.

Although the details of his expedition are not fully documented, his journey remains a testament to his courage, perseverance, and determination. With limited equipment and in conditions very different from today's, he managed to endure physical and mental challenges, proving that the limits of human ability can be pushed with enough will and dedication.

This feat is not only part of the history of Macedonian sports, but also an inspiration for future generations of cyclists and adventurers. Dzambazov left a mark with his journey that testifies to the unwavering spirit and the desire to achieve the impossible.
